Mine Workers
The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) is one of the oldest and most respected labor unions in North America, representing coal miners, clean coal technicians, health care workers, and public employees across the United States and Canada. Founded in 1890, UMWA has a proud legacy of fighting for workers’ rights, fair pay, safe working conditions, and strong communities.
UMWA members are the backbone of the mining and energy industries. They work in coal mines, manufacturing plants, hospitals, and public service sectors—delivering the energy and essential services that power our nation.
Training & Apprenticeships
UMWA supports ongoing education and training to keep members at the forefront of industry standards. Many UMWA locals offer apprenticeship programs and on-the-job training in partnership with employers and technical schools, ensuring members develop skills for today’s and tomorrow’s jobs.
